An update
My letter to SoTA, a scientific publication, and essays in the pipeline
I wanted to share several things here that might be of interest. Cheers.
Letter to SoTA
The Society for Technological Advancement (SoTA) invited me to contribute to their journal, SoTA Letters. It is a collection of letters focussed on problems and solutions relating to British technoscientific progress. I really like their mission, and happily obliged. You can read my letter, “Reclaiming the British University”, here.
In general, I try to rail against negativity bias (hopefully all of my writing reflects this). In my letter to SoTA I point out how I think universities have gone astray (particularly elite British ones), but I try to focus on solutions as much as problems (as always). I hope you find the letter to be rousing—there are always reasons to be optimistic.
Scientific article + interview
Some of my PhD work was recently published online in the Journal of Cell Science. The full (open access) research article is here. JCS also wrote a really nice one-paragraph research highlight here. They also published an interview with me, here, which is part of their “First person” initiative to highlight early career researchers.
I distilled the main findings of the paper in an 𝕏 thread, here.
Essays in the works
Much of my writing time is currently being sapped by postdoctoral fellowship applications and other research articles from my PhD. That said—I have some exciting essays in the pipeline at the moment. You can look forward to future articles on political violence, ethical veganism, 16-year-old voting, and population collapse.
